Description

Hello I have a few discussions to be completed so I will post the questions over here and you will have to discuss on them and I will provide the texts for them as well.

1. The Woman Who Fell from the Sky Non-Autonymous

Explain the theme of each Native creation story, autonomous and non-antonomous. Which story do you prefer and why? If theme is not a major reason you prefer a story, does theme add or detract from your enjoyment of a preferred story?

2. I Sing the Body Electric

What is the theme of Whitman’s poem? Briefly trace the theme through the poem.

3. Phillis Wheatley Poems

Beginning in the 1960s, some black writers and critics, disparaging both Wheatley’s form and message, consider an articulate parrot who accomodates to slavery.  However, many contemorary black wriers and critics disagree. For example, the poet and critic June Jordan said this about Wheatley’s poety: “[Wheatley]

embraced an alternative reading practice that critically engages classical literature on the way toward black liberation (181). Perhaps Wheatley’s most famous poem is “Being Brought from Africa to America.” What is the theme of the poem, and do you see the poem as accomodating or challenging slavery?

4. What We talk about when We talk about Love

What does the story say to you about love? Use four examples from the story to support your idea.

5. The Cask of Amontillado

Explain what role you believe setting plays in the story. In other words, how does setting express or contribute to expressing meaning in the story?

6. The Legend of Sleepy Hollow

Explain what role you believe plot plays in the story. In other words, how does plot express or contribute to expressing meaning in the story?
