Prompt: Think about the two groups of American combatants described in the articles you read — those Kentucky volunteers and the regular army enlisted men. Who were they in terms of social class, etc? In other words, offer a collective portrait of enlisted men who fought for the U.S. during the Mexican-American War. Why did they fight? How effective was each group?
