Description

Policy Analysis Critique #1

during the semester you will turn in brief policy analysis and critique papers. These are short papers (5-8 pages in length) where you will complete a policy analysis about a specific criminal justice-related issue. You will choose a policy (such as mental health courts, boot camps for juvenile offenders, wrongful convictions and eyewitness testimony) and examine existing laws/policy documents and issues surrounding the issue. This will test your ability to define key components of policy related to criminal justice issues. In these analyses/critiques, you should

1.Define the issue.

2.Explore the scope of the issue. Is this local? State? Federal? What populations does it affect?

3.Examples of current laws/policy in place that attend to the issue.

4.Define stakeholders. Who should care about these issues? Who should sit at the table to discuss potential policy solutions?

5.Explore alternative policy solutions and make an informed recommendation about how to attend to the issue you choose.
