Description

In this task, you will create a personal philosophy statement on how the application of social-emotional learning competencies contributes to the achievement of individual student. To do this, you will describe your experience with different strategies that both encourage and discourage the development of students, as well as make recommendations to improve negative practices. Additionally, you will explain how social-emotional competencies influence your practice as an educator, as well as the importance of an educator’s role in ensuring social justice for all students.

REQUIREMENTS

Your submission must be your original work. No more than a combined total of 30% of the submission and no more than a 10% match to any one individual source can be directly quoted or closely paraphrased from sources, even if cited correctly. The originality report that is provided when you submit your task can be used as a guide.

You must use the rubric to direct the creation of your submission because it provides detailed criteria that will be used to evaluate your work. Each requirement below may be evaluated by more than one rubric aspect. The rubric aspect titles may contain hyperlinks to relevant portions of the course.

Tasks may not be submitted as cloud links, such as links to Google Docs, Google Slides, OneDrive, etc., unless specified in the task requirements. All other submissions must be file types that are uploaded and submitted as attachments (e.g., .docx, .pdf, .ppt).

Create a personal philosophy statement on how the application of social-emotional learning competencies contributes to the achievement of individual students by doing the following:

A.  Explain why social and emotional learning (SEL) competencies promote student success in an educational setting.

B.  Describe your experience with one practice or strategy in an educational setting that promotes the social and emotional development of students.

1.  Describe your experience in an educational setting with one practice or strategy that discourages the social and emotional development of students.

2.  Explain how you would modify the practice or strategy described in part B1 to encourage the social and emotional development of students. Include specific examples.

C.  Explain how the SEL competencies in the Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning (CASEL) model influence your practice as an educator. Use specific examples.

1.  Describe a best practice or strategy that you can use as an educator to promote the social and emotional development of students.

D.  Discuss a pattern of oppression, unfairness, or inequity in procedures, policies, practices, or curricula in an educational institution, preferably based on your own experience.

1.  Explain the educator’s role in ensuring social justice for all students.

2.  Describe the behaviors you as an educator can exhibit to promote awareness and acceptance of diverse cultures found in a global society. Include specific examples.

E.  Acknowledge sources, using APA-formatted in-text citations and references, for content that is quoted, paraphrased, or summarized.

F.  Demonstrate professional communication in the content and presentation of your submission.
